One of my favorite things about being a photographer is discovering new locations through my clients. As a Phoenix Arizona maternity photographer, I photograph sessions all over the Valley, but I always get excited when a family introduces me to a place I've never explored before.
For her maternity photo session, Alice envisioned something a little different from the typical desert backdrop. She wanted to photograph this special season surrounded by the mountains near her home, and I immediately loved the idea.
I arrived early to scout the location, but Alice and her family arrived early as well and were excited to show me some of their favorite hidden spots. Exploring the area together made the session feel even more personal and meaningful.

Why Unique Locations Make Maternity Photography So Special
One of the best parts of maternity photography is choosing a location that feels connected to your family's story. This family chose Deem Hills in Phoenix, Arizona, because it is somewhere they got to walk and ride bikes together. While desert maternity photography is always beautiful in Arizona, I love when families choose locations that hold personal meaning to them.
The spot we ultimately chose was absolutely perfect. With mountain views stretching across the horizon, glowing yellow grasses swaying in the breeze, a beautiful winding pathway, and the dreamiest evening light, it felt like something out of a storybook.
Every direction we turned offered another stunning backdrop for this maternity photo session.
Desert Maternity Photography with a Mountain View
When people think of desert maternity photography, they often picture towering saguaros and open desert landscapes. While those locations are beautiful, Arizona also offers incredible mountain scenery that creates a unique and breathtaking backdrop for maternity photos.
This location combined the best of both worlds—warm Arizona tones, natural grasses, mountain views, and beautiful golden-hour light. It was the perfect setting for documenting this exciting season of life.
