Golden Hour Family Session at the Salt River in Mesa, Arizona
Salt River Family Photography in Mesa
Fall is one of my favorite times of year as a Mesa family photographer. While it's definitely the busiest season, it's also the most rewarding because I get to reconnect with so many returning families and see how much they've grown over the past year!
This sweet family is one I've had the joy of photographing before, so getting to see them again for another session was extra special. Watching families grow and documenting each new chapter is one of the reasons I love family photography so much.
For this year's session, we met at Phon D Sutton, one of my favorite locations for Salt River family photography in Mesa! With beautiful desert scenery, tall grasses, and incredible mountain views, it's the perfect place to capture timeless family memories.

Why Phon D Sutton Is One of My Favorite Family Photography Locations
If you're looking for family photos at the Salt River, Phon D Sutton offers everything that makes Arizona so beautiful. The open desert landscape, winding trails, lush greenery, and nearby river create a backdrop that feels both natural and uniquely Arizona.
One of the things I love most about this location is how much variety it offers within a short walk. Whether you're looking for classic desert family photography or softer, greener scenery, this area has something for everyone.
It's easy to see why it's become one of my favorite places for family sessions.
Watching Families Grow Is the Best Part of My Job
One of my favorite memories from this session actually had nothing to do with the location.
The last time I photographed this family, their youngest wasn't quite sure about having his picture taken. We spent the entire session playing games, making silly noises, and trying everything we could think of before finally earning the sweetest smile right at the very end.
This year was completely different.
The moment I saw him, he greeted me with a huge smile, and it stayed that way for the entire session. Seeing how comfortable he had become—and how much he had grown—made this session even more meaningful.
Moments like that remind me why I love photographing returning families year after year.
Golden Hour and Blue Hour Create Beautiful Desert Family Photography
The lighting during this session couldn't have been more beautiful.
We started during golden hour, when the warm Arizona sunlight filled the desert with soft golden tones. As the evening continued, the sky shifted into blue hour, creating cooler, dreamier colors that gave the gallery so much variety.
One of the reasons I love desert family photography is because Arizona sunsets are unlike anywhere else. The changing light adds so much depth and emotion to every session, creating timeless images that never go out of style.
Between the beautiful scenery at Phon D Sutton and the incredible evening light, everything came together perfectly.
