Erika Maternity | Scottsdale Arizona Family Photographer

There’s something incredibly powerful about the simplicity of a studio maternity session. Without distractions, without wind or weather, without busy backgrounds — just you, your growing baby, and soft, intentional light. As a maternity photographer based in Gilbert, Arizona, I love offering studio maternity sessions for moms who want something clean, minimal, and out of the heat of the desert (with air-conditioning)!

If you’re considering a studio maternity session, here’s what you can expect!

Why Choose a Studio Maternity Session?

Studio maternity photography is perfect if you’re drawn to:

  • A clean, neutral aesthetic

  • Soft, controlled lighting

  • A distraction-free environment

  • A quiet, relaxed experience

Unlike outdoor sessions, studio sessions aren’t dependent on weather, heat, or sunset timing. That means we can focus completely on you — your movement, your connection, and the emotion of this season.

The result? Images that feel refined, modern, and timeless all at the same time!

What a Studio Session Feels Like

One of the biggest things I hear from moms is, “I just want this to feel easy.” That’s where studio sessions come in!

During your studio session, the environment allows us to just focus on photos. You don’t have to think about the weather, the heat, or chasing the last bit of sunset light. We’re in a quiet, comfortable space where we can slow down and take our time. I’ll guide you the entire time with gentle direction so you never have to wonder what to do. Nothing feels rushed or overly posed — just simple movements, natural connection, and beautiful light! The whole experience is designed to feel calm, supportive, and effortless.

When to Schedule Your Studio Maternity Session

I typically recommend scheduling maternity photos between 28–34 weeks. Your belly is beautifully round during this window, and most moms still feel comfortable enough to move with ease.

Because studio sessions aren’t tied to golden hour, we have more flexibility with scheduling — which many busy moms really appreciate!

I always suggest booking during your second trimester to secure your preferred date.

What to Wear for Studio Maternity Photos

Wardrobe plays a huge role in the look of studio maternity photography.

For studio sessions, I recommend:

  • Neutral tones (cream, beige, soft browns, muted black)

  • Fitted dresses that highlight your bump

  • Simple, elevated pieces with clean lines

  • Minimal accessories

Studio lighting beautifully emphasizes texture and shape, so simple clothing photographs best.

If your partner is joining, I’ll help coordinate outfits to maintain that clean, cohesive look.

Can Partners or Children Join?

Yes — and studio maternity sessions can be incredibly meaningful when partners or siblings are included!

The controlled setting allows us to create intimate, connected images without distractions. Whether it’s a quiet embrace, a hand resting on your belly, or a sibling leaning in close, those moments feel especially powerful in a minimal space.

That said, studio sessions tend to be a bit more structured than outdoor sessions, so they’re often ideal for families who are comfortable with gentle guidance.
