A Fast Gilbert Birth Photography Story

I almost didn't make it to this birth!

As a birth photographer in Gilbert, Arizona, one of the biggest things I worry about is simply not making it in time. Babies don't exactly follow schedules, and every labor is different.

I knew Kairleigh had the potential to go quickly because of her previous three births, so when she texted me that she was headed to the hospital, I was already paying close attention. She texted again when they arrived, and then...nothing.

Radio silence.

I knew she could progress quickly, so I headed straight to the hospital. I waited for a little while because I knew getting checked in and settled into a room could take some time. But after about an hour without hearing anything, I started getting a little worried.

I texted Kairleigh again. Twenty minutes went by with no response, so I texted her husband.

Another twenty minutes went by.

Still nothing.

At this point, I did something I don't normally do—I went back into Labor & Delivery to see if I could find them.

I asked a nurse if they had been moved to a room yet, and she told me they were still in triage. So I went back out and waited again.

About 45 minutes later, I texted them both again.

Nothing.

I went back inside, and they were still in triage.

At that point, I wasn't sure what was happening. Maybe she simply wasn't progressing yet, or maybe something else had happened. I decided to give everyone a little more space and went back to wait in my car.

After another 30 minutes, I went back inside to check again.

This time, I asked the front desk if they had been moved.

She was finally in a room!

I rushed back to Labor & Delivery.

It turns out Kairleigh and her husband hadn't looked at their phones even once during the three hours they had been at the hospital. She was in so much pain that their phones were the last thing on their minds—and honestly, that makes perfect sense! I'm so glad I trusted my instincts and kept checking in.

Because just 20 minutes after I finally made it into their room, their baby was born.

Everything happened so quickly, and I'm so incredibly grateful that I was there to document it.

This is exactly why I love Gilbert birth photography so much.

You never really know how a birth story is going to unfold. Sometimes labor takes hours and hours. Sometimes everything happens incredibly quickly.

My job is to be there as much as possible, pay attention to the signs of labor, and be ready when your baby decides it's time.

And once that baby arrives, there are so many moments I love capturing beyond the actual delivery—the first reactions, the tiny newborn details, the way parents look at their baby, and all those first moments together.

Those are the images that become part of your family's story forever.

Then finally getting into the room and realizing that baby was coming FAST.
